Reports are machine-readable files, so a free DMARC report service is easier to read than a mailbox. Separate several addresses with commas.
More settings
Relaxed lets mail sent from news.yourname.com count for yourname.com. Strict needs an exact match; only use it if you know you need it.
Picking a policy
Start with p=none and a report address. Your email keeps arriving as normal, and the reports show you everything that sends as you.
Once the reports show that your newsletter, mailbox and store all pass, move to quarantine and then reject, so faked emails using your name never reach readers.
How to add your DMARC record
-
Copy the record
Use the Copy button so nothing gets cut off.
-
Add a TXT record at _dmarc
Paste the value. If you already have a DMARC record, replace it.
-
Check it
Run the DMARC checker. Reports start arriving within a day or two.
Questions
What are DKIM match and SPF match?
They set how closely your From domain must match the domain that passed. Relaxed lets subdomains count, which suits almost every author.
Should subdomains get their own policy?
Usually not. Leave it on Same as above unless you send from a subdomain on purpose.
Can I send reports to more than one address?
Yes. Separate the addresses with commas.
